Mill Cove WWTF Status Update - Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) it is!

Background: Halifax Water HW has iden?fied a need to upgrade/expand the Mill Cove WWTF to 37.1 MLD average flow and address the immediate growth demands and more stringent WSER effluent limits. HW completed a feasibility study to assess various treatment upgrade/expansion technologies that fit the site including: BNR ac?vated sludge, BAF, MBBR and MBR, and idenfied MBR as the preferred technology upgrade. Follow-up with more detailed analysis has confirmed MBR is preferred and predesign development is well underway.

Purpose: The purpose is to review the current Mill Cove MBR retrofit concept that fits the site and best meets construc?on sequence challenges. This will highlight some of the challenges associated with retrofi?ng a constrained site to meet the immediate and future expansion needs while keeping the plant in compliance during construc?on.
